The Ferus Gallery was the most important contemporary art gallery on the left coast. It opened in 1957 and closed 1966. In 1957, the gallery was located on North La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. Founded by Artist Ed Kienholz and art connoisseur Walter Hopps. Later it was purchased by Irving Blum and Sayde Moss. Ferus Gallery was named after a James Farris who had commited suicide. Although known for it's west coast location and artist, it exhibited many east coast artist as well. On this list of shows is Andy Warhol’s first solo one, his famous soup cans. It has been named one of the 10 most important galleries in art history.
